The Male Brain: Systemizing

"Systemizing is the drive to analyze, explore, and construct a system. The systemizer intuitively figures out how things work, or extracts the underlying rules that govern the behavior of a system. This is done to understand and predict the system, or to invent a new one." Simon Barron-Cohen

This blog is strictly talking about the average male who tends to naturally systemize more than females. The information is based on statistical averages, therefore there are exceptions to the rule. Systemizing is great if one is determining patterns regarding the inner workings of objects or even the systems that makes the body work. Yet, when it comes to day-to-day social interactions systemizing is all but useless.

This fact is one of the reasons "average" males struggle with understanding those who are average empathizers, females. Systemizers who are rule based thinkers find it hard to understand 1 + 2 doesn't always equal 3 when the equation has to do with human behavior. A systemizer thinks, "She's gonna love this new vacuum cleaner for her birthday. It will make her day-to-day life easier."

He's baffled and maybe even thinks she's ungrateful because she didn't appreciate his effort to make things easier for her to clean and take care of their home. His logic is correct, but his ability to consider logic is not always the best choice when it comes to how to respond in social situations is what causes the strife. Systemizers do not instinctively relate to the reality one can't make sense of or predict the moment-by-moment shifts in a person's behavior. Males/systemizers like situations where they can predict the outcome.

The unraveling of patriarchy is all but demanding that male systemizers accepts the natural process to understand a person is to empathize. Empathizing and systemizing are two completely different processes. Empathy allows us to determine the source and possibly understand a person's behavior. Systemizing is used for everything else.

Male's need to exercise their strength and thirst for power has led them to a place they never thought they'd be in at all. Those who constructed patriarchy never once gave a thought to the possibility a woman was anymore than the carrier of babies, and the one to clean up after a mess. They forced women to see themselves as weak and possessing an inability to learn, to think, to have an opinion that mattered. They told women they were weak and needed protection and did not need money. Only men needed money.  Isn't it ironic that women making, monitoring and investing their own money is the vehicle that will ultimately clasp patriarchy. The only thing that matters to many males is the one thing that is separating them from the world their ancestors knew, complete control over women.
